Outdoor Activities

Walking & climbing  |  Dramatic coastline, sandy beaches, spectacular Cuillins, pools and waterfalls and so much more. From a family walk to scrambles - there is something for everyone! A few walksand routes which are not far from Carbost that we would recommend are: Glenbrittle Beach (15 min drive), the Fairy Pools (10 min drive), Talisker Bay (10 min drive) , Coral beaches (30 min drive), Neist Point (40 min drive). Sailing, kayaking & fishing  |  Although we do not provide kayaks or boats at the lodge due to liability issues, all guests are welcome to (and a lot of them do) bring their own boats and kayaks for their holiday. The pontoon is completely private and is perfect for fishing off. You can catch mackerel, ling, pollock, etc. in the loch. There are 4 lobster pots at the end of the pontoon for guests to catch lobsters. Sailing is a great way of exploring Skye's coastline, its surrounding islands and diversity of marine wildlife. You'll have every chance of seeing whales, dolphins, basking sharks, golden eagles and sea eagles.

"Sail Ezra" offers day long trips to guests, staying at the Boat Lodge. Ezra is a replica Isles of Scilly pilot cutter and was launched in Cornwall, where she was built, in March 2006.  She is based in Loch Harport and is available for day charter.  She is crewed by skipper and mate who, with your assistance, will sail the boat up Loch Harport and into Loch Bracadale and then out into the Minch to give you a real feel of traditional hands-on sailing.  www.sailezra.co.uk

Indoor activities

Talisker Distillery  |  The Distillery is only 200 yards away from the Lodge. There is a nice little shop and a visitor centre, where youcan buy whiskeys and souvenirs.Guided tours are very good and highly popular, especially during wet weather. Booking tours in advance isrecommended.

Castles & Museums  |   There are a few Castles and Museums in Skye & Lochalsh area. Dunvegan Castle, which has been the stronghold of the Chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years, and Gardens. Armadale castle, gardens, Clan Donald Centre and Museum of the Isles. The Skye Museum of Island Life. The famous Eilean Donan Castle.

Leisure centre  |  There is a nice leisure centre in Portree (20 min drive), which includes a swimming pool with a sauna and a steam room, a climbing wall, a weights room, tennis/badminton hall, etc. For further information please click here >>

For Children

The sandy beach at Glenbrittle is only a 15 minute drive away from the lodge and is a perfect place to take children on a summers day and is located at right next to the Cuillins. There is also the Coral beaches at Dunvegan. Some of the hill walks are suitable for children with supervision, such as Neist Point Light House, Faerie Glen near Uig, the Quiraing and the Fairy Pools.

Also, there is a large adventure playground at Sligachan hotel (just 10 min drive)surrounded by classic Cuillin vistas. There is a restaurant and a pub with outside sitting area. There is another nice adventure playground in Kyle of Lochalsh, beside the swimming pool.

Children always enjoy boat trips, there are a few around here, for example - Seaprobe Atlantis - glass bottom boat which offers wildlife cruises from Kyle of Lochalsh from Easter to October.
